OK, it's been a little bit since I posted and honestly, life here has been fairly crazy as of late with some new developments requiring more time and attention than I am accustomed to, cutting in to my time that I can devote to the blog. I'll try to keep coming up with posts when I am able but I can't promise there will be any regularity to them... Anyways, with that out of the way, this post compiles most of the discography of North Carolina's eco-thrashers Uwharria. From my home state and featuring members of Blownapart Bastards (as well as Rentamerica, Divide and Conquer, and even Oi Polloi) Uwharria played a chaotic brand of metallic hardcore that brings to mind late 80's crossover thrash - like later D.R.I. or Animosity-era C.O.C. Rick from Blownapart's vocals remind me a bit of Blaine from the Accused on these tracks which only adds to the crossover feel... All the lyrics concern wildlife and environmental issues (hence the "eco-thrash" tag) but with somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek attitude. Song titles range from bird species like "Ivory-billed Woodpecker" and "Appalachian Skullcap," to the less than majestic like "Dung Beetles" and "Tick Attack." Short-lived, Uwharria released a full length CD and a split CD with fellow N.C. punks Crimson Spectre. I remember there also being a live CD that the band self-released but I never got my hands on that. The link below has the full length as well as their half of the split CD, 24 tracks total.

Blownapart Bastards (Repost)
Here is pretty much everything from fellow North Carolinians Blownapart
Bastards. I saw these guys many times when I lived in N.C. - BB played
pretty much every show in the area back then. Their sound was fairly
lo-fi, vaguely crusty inspired HC with political lyrics - often mocking
but also sometimes pointed. Included here is their "Requestioning
Violence" Ep, and their split Eps with All You Can Eat, Resol and Oi
Polloi. Fugitive Equilibrium posted two compilations featuring BB tracks as well. My fave song of theirs was featured on the Unforseen Disasters comp.,
but "Requestioning Violence" stands out as their most solid release.
I've included both sides of their splits in the file. Red went on to
play for Oi Polloi and joined Rick to form the great Uwharria later on. Awesome early 90s nostalgia.. check it out.

Gnosis - Disunion Ep
Alright, time for another band from my hometown, or close by anyways. Gnosis were a short lived group from Raleigh, North Carolina that played some heavily Neurosis inspired noisy HC. This 7" came out in 1994 and is their only official release, as far as I know. As I mentioned, there is a definite early Neurosis feel to this record. The opening track is a noisy intro which is followed by two quick HC songs and the final track is a longer, dirgy number laden with samples - not too unlike fellow North Carolinians Buzzoven. All-in-all, a great slice of mid-90's hardcore and a hidden gem from the Southeastern USA. Jaime from Gnosis now plays in Devour, who are great in their own right.
A side note about the blog, I'll be heading out traveling next week, so I may not be able to post again until I return in late November. So download and enjoy and I'll be back in a few weeks with new records to share.

Unsettled - s/t Ep
OK, so I'm leaving for a whirlwind European vacation with the wife in a couple of days, so before I disappear for 2 plus weeks, here is one last post to keep you interested in the blog. This time out we've got N.C.'s Unsettled... hailing from Greensboro in the mid-90's, these dudes started out as "Core of Reality" which betrays some of their influence. They changed the name, played a mean C.O.C. cover live (Prayer!) and tightened up the sound. To my ears it sounds like early Voorhees meets Ulcer... sick stuff. My friends Pat and Sam at Passive Fist put this one out. Pat still has the DAT for an unreleased Unsettled Ep I hear, but other than this 7" their released output consists of a couple of compilation tracks. Go to Fugitive Equilibrium for another recently posted Passive Fist release.... in the meantime, enjoy Unsettled and I'll be back in June with more tunes. Take care.
